Why DataPurge exists

Data brokers profit from an asymmetry. Collecting your data is trivially cheap. Getting it removed is brutally hard. We're here to flip that.

The asymmetry problem

Hundreds of companies you've never heard of buy, aggregate, and sell your personal information — names, addresses, phone numbers, income estimates, political affiliations, photos, relatives. They profit from collecting it cheaply. Removing it costs you hours of research, countless forms, and follow-up emails that often go ignored.

How DataPurge fights back

Every request you send is documented, legally cited, and tracked to a deadline. Every explicit withdrawal of consent puts your wishes on the record as privacy laws evolve.

We don't wait to confirm whether a broker holds your data. We send deletion requests to every broker in our registry, cite the laws that protect you, and track every deadline until your data is gone.

Regulators are starting to help. California residents should begin with DROP, the state's official one-request deletion platform (registered brokers must process requests from August 1, 2026) — then use DataPurge for the brokers and rights DROP doesn't reach. Other states are watching: Vermont's 2026 data broker bill funds a study of a similar portal. Until that future arrives everywhere, DataPurge is how you cover the gap.

How it works

Enter your info

Name, email, and optionally your location for stronger legal coverage. Everything stays in your browser's local storage — never transmitted anywhere.

We generate legal templates

Jurisdiction-specific deletion requests citing CCPA, GDPR, and 17+ state privacy laws. Templates use placeholders — your browser fills them in locally.

Send and track

BCC all brokers at once or send one by one. Track response deadlines, verify removal, and send noncompliance notices when brokers miss their legal deadlines.

DataPurge provides information and tooling, not legal advice. Using it does not create an attorney–client relationship — see our privacy policy & disclaimer.

Get involved

DataPurge is volunteer-maintained and open-source. Here's how you can help.

Add brokers

Our registry grows through contributions. Add a YAML file to brokers/ with the broker's opt-out contact info, category, and data types.

Improve templates

Legal templates can always be strengthened. If you have privacy law expertise, help us cite new regulations or improve existing language.

Report broken opt-outs

Brokers change their processes constantly. If an opt-out method stops working, let us know so we can update the registry.

Spread the word

Share DataPurge with friends, family, and communities. Most people don't know they have the right to demand deletion — help them find out.
